In this light Murray was able to get a good look at the Asian. He was not just old. He was ancient. His face was faded. As if time had been chipping away at his life for centuries. His clothes dusty and moth-eaten. And despite his blood-flecked eyes, they sparkled when he looked at Leonidas.

  “Who are you?” Murray asked.

The old man gestured to the boy, “This is Montel Nibbs. Lone survivor of the Forsaken Insurgence.”

Murray had no idea what that meant. The old Asian continued, “And I am Satoshi Nakamoto.”

Murray swayed first to his left then his right, his arms out to balance himself. Leonidas had to grab hold of him to ensure he didn’t fall.

Satoshi Nakamoto. The founder of Bitcoin. The mysterious man who created a movement that turned into a revolution. A revolution that was now known as the Blockchain Wars.

“It can’t be,” Murray said. “You lived hundreds of years ago.”

Nakamoto gave him a pleasant smile. “That is an explanation for another time.”

A technician operating the monitors on the wall walked over to the table and handed Montel a piece of paper. He gave it a quick glance. “The vote in Jerusalem was unanimous,” he said. “War has been declared on Iran. The illegal tech the Iranians used to bring the Spartans to our present has turned the entire One World Order against Leonidas and his people.”

“The Persians are going to war against our enemies,” Leonidas said, fascinated. “Let us fight them both.”

“The Russians will to come to Iran’s aid,” Montel added. “Soon, the entire world will be at war.”

“Before we can liberate the world,” Nakamoto said, “we must liberate the people of the United Soviet States of America.” He brought his gaze on Leonidas. “You were brought here to renew the strength of our people. Our men have lost the traits of the ancients. Your presence here will carry us into a new dawn. A dawn of strength, physical skill, and courage. Your travel through time has given you god-like powers. Show the world what a free people can do. Make men great again.”

Murray was about to speak when one of the guys at the counsel interrupted. “Sir, you may want to hear this.”

The volume was turned up. On screen the Chancellor stood on a veranda overlooking a handful of reporters.

“…we have the technology. And we will use it for good instead of evil. We will use it to protect the people of this great nation along with our allies across the globe. We will not tolerate treason from our own people and we will not tolerate their band of barbaric terrorists. They want to destroy our way of life and bring us back to a time before the One World Order. Rest assured the United Soviet States of America will not let that happen. Joining me now to assist the world in our undivided mission is a man who kept a divided country together long ago. A man who will now keep the entire world together.”

It took a moment for the news cameras to focus as a man appeared walking onto the veranda behind the Chancellor.

The man was freakishly tall. As he got closer to the camera Murray eyes widened. He saw the stovepipe hat, and then the un-mistakeable beard.

“I present to you Abraham Lincoln,” the Chancellor said.

A collective gasp came from the reporters on the scene.

  Murray dropped to his knees.

  “No. No. No.”

Leonidas lifted Murray off the floor. “He is no warrior. We will show him Spartan justice.”

“Lincoln invaded his own country, killed hundreds of thousands of fellow Americans, claimed the free and independent states were not sovereign, and that the federal government was supreme. Nobody knows the real Lincoln. The world will follow him like a religious cult. He is like a god to these people.”

Leaning on the table, Satoshi raised himself from his chair and walked over to Leonidas. A small smile crept across the old Asian’s face as put his hand on the Spartan king’s arm. He looked at Murray. “So is he.”
